Acclimatising in Cusco: Altitude Tips

How to prepare your body for 3,400 m and enjoy the Andes without altitude sickness.

Cusco sits at 3,400 metres above sea level, and the altitude is real. The key is to arrive slowly: spend the first day resting, hydrate well and skip the alcohol.

Coca tea helps, and starting in the lower Sacred Valley before going up to Cusco eases acclimatisation. If you plan to trek, allow at least two days to adapt.
